Campus Organizations

The following is a list of campus-specific organizations and initiatives that may be of particular interest to undocumented students. The campus organizations listed here have declared themselves allies and made themselves available to you as resources.

Student Organizations

1. Campus Y: organization working to engage students, the UNC campus, and communities in the pursuit of social justice
   
2. Carolina Cupboard: a food pantry on campus that supports all UNC students, regardless of citizenship status
3. Student Health Action Coalition: SHAC Medical Clinic is the nation’s oldest student-run free clinic serving the health needs of individuals who are unable to access the health care system free of charge.
4. Mi Pueblo UNC: Dedicated to creating a welcoming environment centered around Latinx issues and cultures at UNC-Chapel Hill
5. Students United For Immigrant Equality (SUIE):  student-led organization that advocates for immigrant issues to be recognized as human rights issues through the promotion of the ideals that stress equality of all people regardless of national origin or documentation status.
6. The Phi Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc: network of Latina “hermanas” dedicated to the promotion of public service and cultural awareness, with an emphasis on Latino history, contributions, and experiences

Departments/Units

1. Carolina Latinx Center: supports UNC-Chapel Hill’s Latinx communities and educates the campus and beyond through engagement, scholarship, cultural awareness, and public service
2. Critical Ethnic Studies: convenes faculty engaged in research that focuses on intersectional thought and social justice in diverse communities. T
3. Latina/o Studies Program at UNC: academic department at UNC encompassing Chicana/o Studies, Puerto Rican Studies, Cuban American Studies, Dominican Studies, and Central American Studies; courses and events focus on issues of transnationalism, im/migration, and globalization
4. LatinxEd/Somos Carolina: provides guidance to individuals, organizations, and peer institutions on how best to support DACAmented and undocumented students on their campus and community.  It also seeks to connect students to resources and opportunities through its wide network of partners across the state and country.
5. Student Legal Services: provides free legal help for members of the Carolina community; their staff attorneys do not specialize in immigration, but can point students in the right direction
6. UNC Center for Latino Health (CELAH): provides translation services, improves advocacy for the Latino community, increases research on health issues affecting the Latino population, and trains healthcare providers from all fields to effectively care for this population
7. UNC Latino Migration Project: directs a number of award-winning programs, including the New Roots Latino Oral Histories, one of the fastest growing archives of Latino oral histories in the region and Building Integrated Communities, a program that assists North Carolina city governments in successfully engaging with immigrants and refugee populations
