Trained to Kill: How Police Training Denied the Complex Innocence of Antonio Zambrano-Montes

November 12, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Innocence of Antonio Zambrano Montes flyer

In collaboration with The Consortium in Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Duke and UNC, The Latina/o Studies Program, and the Critical Ethnic Studies Collaborative, Dr. Lisa Marie Cacho examined the police shooting of Antonio Zambrano-Montes, an undocumented Latino immigrant who was throwing rocks when he was shot. Instead of trying to figure out why a specific shooting happened or making a case for why a specific victim was more innocent than not, Cacho starts with the premise that no shootings should be automatically justified and that all people—even if in the act of committing a crime—are complexly innocent.
