College Advising Resources for Undocumented Students & Their Allies

Undocumented students are welcome to apply to UNC, and the university will consider them for admission. There is no federal or North Carolina law that prohibits the admission of undocumented immigrants to U.S. colleges, public or private. Students applying to universities and community colleges in North Carolina are required to use the online “Residency Determination Service” to determine whether they are “residents” or “non-residents” for tuition purposes. U.S. citizen students with undocumented parents are facing special challenges in navigating this system. However, there is advice and guidance for students in immigrant families going through this process. NC Tuition Policies

North Carolina does not currently grant undocumented or DACAmented students in-state tuition. UNC Admissions

Undocumented students are welcome to apply to UNC, and the university will consider them for admission. There is no federal or North Carolina law that prohibits the admission of undocumented immigrants to U.S. colleges, public or private. Undocumented students applying for admission to UNC are considered international students and are ineligible for federal financial aid. Our Scholarships page provides more information on private scholarships and fellowships available to anyone regardless of immigration status.
